Preparation Before The Testing Phase
The Blueprint Year: Getting Ready for Test 1
If there’s one thing I love, it’s planning. The feeling of seeing how things can happen step by step makes me that much more excited for the end goal. Today is day 7 — I spent the day planning out my goals this year, and coming up with a few different approach methods to try.
The first one I’m giving a go is called Energy Prioritization. Which is fancy for “do what you feel like”. When I feel energetic, I’ll do tasks that require more effort. When I feel like I have low energy, I’ll focus on the smaller, more doable tasks. The goal is to stick with it for a week and reflect on how it went.
Before I jump into tackling my goals, I’m preparing by cleaning my home, getting rid of things I don’t need, and creating space for my new hobbies and goals. In addition, I’m breaking down my goals until I get to the very beginning of them, and committing to getting those tasks done.
The break down looks like this:
Big Goal → 3 Accomplishments
Each Accomplishment → X amount of steps
Each Step → Task(s)
Since I’m at the beginning, a lot of my tasks include adopting new habits or changing current ones and learning a skill or about a subject.
Before implementing Energy Prioritization, I’ll need to test out the tasks and classify them as high energy or low energy. I’ll keep a list of them in my planner to make sure I’m not forgetting any throughout the week.
I’m usually the type to approach things logistically, not by going with the flow like this, so I’m a bit nervous about how it’s going to turn out. But that’s the beauty of the testing phase. If it doesn’t work out, great, I can pivot. And if it does, even better! The point of this is to be 100% confident in the approach I’m taking. My goals are big and I’ve given myself 365 days, so I can’t afford to wing it. Wish me luck!
